Bruce Gagnon, co-founder and coordinator of the Global Network against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space, spoke at Reversing Falls Sanctuary in Brooksville, Maine, on Mar. 26 as part of their spring lenten series featuring individuals Robert Shetterly has painted for the Americans Who Tell the Truth portrait series. Gagnon shared his history of activism. He also described the campaign to convert Bath Iron Works from a shipyard building warships to a facility building commuter rail systems, solar panels, and/or wind turbines.

The program describes the dangerous and expensive journey of refugees fleeing the war-torn lands of Syria and Iraq. It introduces three refugees living and waiting in Athens, Greece, sharing the challenges they face and their hopes for the future. The program also shares the perspective of a child laborer in Kabul, who sells onions on the street to help earn money for his family.

WERU Special: Giving Tuesday (2 segments) 11/29/16

“Giving to Your Community”, WERU’s alternative to Black Friday and Cyber Monday and our way of participating in Giving Tuesday, which is a national day all about supporting community organizations by donating and volunteering.

WERU celebrated the day with a special live hour at 10am and then another at 4pm on the “Giving Voice to Your Community” theme. Local and state-wide nonprofit organizations of all kinds were invited to call in and share a little bit about their organizations and the ways that community members can support them.
