In Maine this year, Data Privacy Day is being marked by the introduction of a number of bills into the Maine legislature that deal with online and communication privacy. Digital cameras are great. They can help us not only to take better photos more conveniently, they also capture information about how our picture was taken so we can duplicate the exact exposure on another shot if we want to. And these days, most newer digital cameras also capture information about exactly where and when a picture was taken, which might also be very convenient – or not. Here are a few things to consider before you send off that digital photo to an online photo sharing site.

Our human tools have usually been developed to extend our senses – sight, smell, hearing, taste, touch. Computers extend our human abilities, too, but usually mental ones because computers can’t touch or taste – right? Maybe not for long. How about computers making original and very tasty recipes. Could be happening within five years, according to IBM researchers. Mmmmm!
